MADISON, Miss. – Rain and lightning suspended play twice here Wednesday on the third day of the Sun Belt Conference Men's Golf Championships, with UL's golf teams one of the 11 teams that did not complete the third and final round of stroke play.

The Ragin' Cajun players managed to finish between six and nine holes in their third trip around Annandale Golf Club before the course was cleared at 12:34 p.m. due to lightning in the area. After a delay of four hours and 21 minutes, players returned to the course at 4:55 p.m. – only to be pulled off the course 16 minutes later due to more nearby lightning. Rains then forced postponement of the remainder of the third round, with play scheduled to resume early Thursday morning over the 7,143-yard par-72 layout.

The Cajuns entered the third round in 11th place and were in that spot when play was halted. A quick start, with two birdies from senior Malan Potgieter and birdies from senior Jean Louis du Plessis and freshman James Holtsclaw in the first two holes briefly had UL as high as ninth, but the squad managed only one more birdie from Potgieter before play was halted.

As of the stoppage, Potgieter and Holtsclaw were tied at five-over-par and tied for 32nd in the field to lead UL into Thursday's final holes.

Three teams – Coastal Carolina, Arkansas State and James Madison – finished play Wednesday after being the first groups off the No. 1 tee. At the suspension, Coastal led the tournament at 13-under with Arkansas State tied for second with Southern Miss at 11-under, with the Golden Eagles still having one player to finish his round. UL stands at 20-over par as a team midway through the third round.

Max Bengtsson, the second-day leader, finished his third round at two-under 70 and is the leader in the clubhouse at 10-under 206. His closest four competitors also finished their round, and the closest players to his completed score that remain on the course are Louis Anceaux of ULM and Harrison Sewell of Georgia Southern, both at five-under with 11 holes to play.

The top four teams after the conclusion of the third round will advance to match play Thursday, with matches scheduled to begin as soon as possible after the third round of stroke play is completed.
Live scoring is available online at scoreboard.clippd.com and ESPN+ will have live coverage of the final round of stroke play and the match-play competition beginning at 10 a.m.
