Berrat Brings Home Sun Belt Player of the Week

Dominant week at No. 1 singles helps Cajuns stretch winning streak to five matches
LAFAYETTE - After a dominant week at the top of the lineup the final week of February, Angelique Berrat of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis team has been named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced.
Berrat went a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles to lead Louisiana (7-3) to three victories, helping the Ragin' Cajuns extend their season-best winning streak to five consecutive matches.
The senior standout was dominant throughout the week, recording three straight-set victories while dropping only five total games across the three matches.
Berrat set the tone in Louisiana's road victory over UT Arlington on Februray 26. She was the first match to finish in singles play, delivering a commanding 6-0, 6-1 win over Diana Kaibara at the No. 1 position.
She continued that momentum, securing the match-clinching victories from the top spot in 4-0 team sweeps against Weatherford College and Norfolk State.
With the strong showing, Berrat extended her personal winning streak at No. 1 singles to five matches and improved to 7-1 on the season in the top position.
Her consistent play at the front of the lineup has been a key factor in Louisiana's recent surge, her personal winning streak paralleling the team's winning streak.
Following postponements with Nicholls and Rice this week, Berrat and her Ragin' Cajuns teammates are scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 11 at Cajun Courts hosting Northwestern State in a 4:45 p.m. dual match.
