Louisiana Fights to the Finish Against No. 15 Texas A&M

3/1/2026 7:47:00 PM | Softball

Tipton provides strong relief and Cajuns break through in sixth, but can’t erase Aggies’ early surge

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team pushed across a late run but could not overcome an early deficit in a 5–1 loss to No. 15 Texas A&M on Sunday, March 1 in the Texas A&M Invitational at Davis Diamond in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

As a result, Louisiana (14-8) finished with a split against the 15th-ranked Aggies in the weekend tournament. The Ragin' Cajuns outlasted the Aggies, 10-8, on Friday evening in the first matchup.

Texas A&M (15-7) struck first in the second inning, using three hits to plate a pair of runs for a 2–0 lead. The Aggies added to the advantage in the third when Kelsey Mathis delivered a three-run home run to right-center that extended the margin to 5–0.

The Ragin' Cajuns chipped into the deficit in the sixth inning.

Mia Liscano started the rally with a single to left field and moved to second on a groundout. Kennedy Marceaux followed with a double to left that brought Liscano home. The two-out rally was halted, though, as Texas A&M's Sydney Lessentine recorded a strikeout, stranding Marceaux in scoring position.

Louisiana was limited to three hits in the contest by Lessentine, with Marceaux and Cecilia Vasquez joining Liscano in the hit column. Marceaux's sixth-inning RBI double accounted for Louisiana's only extra-base hit of the day.

In the circle, Bethaney Noble (4-1) took the loss after allowing four runs in 2-2/3 innings. Julianne Tipton provided solid relief, tossing the final 3-1/3 innings and allowing just one run while helping keep the Aggies off the scoreboard after the third.

Texas A&M finished with nine hits, highlighted by three from Tallen Edwards and the decisive home run from Mathis.

Despite the setback, Louisiana's pitching and defense settled in after the early surge, holding the Aggies scoreless over the final three innings.

Sunday's action wrapped up the fourth weekend of non-conference tournament play. UL finished with a 3-2 mark in Bryan-College Station, closing a tournament weekend with a winning record for the fourth time in as many tries.
