Ragin' Cajuns Fall To Tulane, 4-0

Louisiana to open three-match swing through Sunshine State at No. 24 Florida on Friday
LAFAYETTE – A trio of Louisiana women's tennis players were ahead in their respective singles matches, but Tulane claimed the doubles point and took the first three contests in singles play to earn a 4-0 victory on Sunday at Cajun Courts.

Tulane (2-4) secured the early advantage by winning the top two doubles matches. Campbell Ricci and Micah Pierce posted a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles before Leigh Van Zyl and Summer Chandler clinched the point with a 6-2 win at No. 1.

In singles action, Tulane earned straight-set wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 6. Natalia Perez defeated Marilou Bressan, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 2, Leigh Van Zyl topped Safia Zenbi, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 3, and Diana Badalyan earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rocio Navarro at No. 6.

Several Louisiana players were trending in the right direction before play was halted. At No. 1, Angelique Berrat rebounded from a first-set loss to even the match against Ricci, 3-6, 6-0, and held a 4-1 lead in the third set. Martina Della Gora led Pierce, 6-1, 5-4, at No. 4, while Ana Martinez Vaquero was ahead of Natalia Fantini, 6-3, 6-5, at No. 5 when the match was stopped.

Louisiana (2-2) will open a five-match road trip beginning on Friday with the first of three matches in the state of Florida. The Ragin' Cajuns will visit No. 24-ranked Florida on Friday before facing Stetson in a neutral-site match on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla., before facing West Florida on Monday (Feb. 16) in Pensacola, Fla.
