Ragin' Cajuns earn national ranking ahead of LSU matchup and home opener
The ranking marks Louisiana's first national listing of the season and follows a three-match winning streak that improved the Ragin' Cajuns to 5-3 overall.
Louisiana claimed the H-E-B Tournament of Champions title last weekend in Corpus Christi, Texas, capped by a 4-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, which entered the match with an 11-1 record.
The recent surge has balanced Louisiana's early-season slate, which included road matches at then-No. 14 UCF, SMU and Texas Tech - teams all listed in the current ITA Top 75 rankings.
The national ranking sets the stage for a pair of local matchups this week as Louisiana competes in the Acadiana area for the first time this spring. The Ragin' Cajuns face Top 10-ranked LSU on Thursday, February 26 at 4:00 p.m. at the Youngsville Sports Complex, then makes their official home debut at Cajun Courts on Sunday, March 1, hosting Norfolk State in a 5:00 p.m. contest.
Individually, Nikola Kolyachev leads the Cajuns with a 5-1 singles record, while Samuel Kyjaci is 5-2. Gianluca Filoramo is 4-0 in dual-match singles play, and Darius Balan has won three straight singles matches.
Louisiana is 12-8 in doubles competition, highlighted by a 4-2 mark from the tandem of Balan and Kolyachev. Mason Landreth and Leonard Tramolay have combined for a team-best five doubles victories on Court 1.
