Dukes record facility-record hitting percentage in pushing past the Ragin’ Cajuns

HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Louisiana Women's Basketball team was overtaken by James Madison's highly efficient offense and fell to the Dukes 96-45 on Thursday, January 29 at the Atlantic Union Bank Center in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

JMU shot 60 percent (37-of-62) for the contest including a blistering 71 percent (22-of-31) in the second half as the final margin was inflated. The Ragin' Cajuns managed just 27 percent shooting (15-of-56) and a result were unable to keep up with the sharpshooting Dukes.

Louisiana (2-19, 1-10 SBC) made an early recovery after JMU (15-8, 7-4 SBC) scored the game's first 10 points.

Charged by six points from freshman Imani Daniel, returning after missing the previous three games with injury, the Ragin' Cajuns outscored the Dukes 12-7 over a five-minute stretch, capped off by Mikaylah Manley's basket at 0:38 of the opening period that sliced the JMU lead to 17-12.

Manley started the scoring for the Cajuns in the second quarter with a triple a 9:16, bringing the deficit back to single digits at 23-15. The Dukes, though, responded by making five of their next eight field goal attempts to advance the lead to 34-18 by the 5:29 mark.

UL came out of the media timeout with a Lily Ba made basket and had a chance at back-to-back makes after a defensive stop but was unable to convert. JMU countered with a pair of three-pointers that extended the lead to 40-20 just before the two-minute mark.

The Ragin' Cajuns started the second half with a three-point play from Manley and a Daniel layup off of a JMU turnover for a quick spurt that knocked the deficit down to 42-27 prior to the eight-minute mark expiring.

Until the final minute of the third quarter, Louisiana wouldn't allow the JMU to pull away. The Ragin' Cajuns answered the Dukes all the way through the 1:55 mark when a Stephanie Mosely free throw made it 56-38.

Similar to the second quarter, the Dukes dialed up a pair of crucial three-point makes to chase away the Ragin' Cajuns. In the final minute of the period, Bree Robinson and Zakiya Stephenson landed triples to stretch the advantage to 64-38.

Louisiana saw a streak of consecutive missed field goals, which began after Mosely's free throw late in the third, extend to 10 straight over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter. During that time the Dukes increased their lead to 78-39.

JMU remained unblemished against Louisiana capturing a win for the sixth time in as many matchups.

One week after picking up their first SBC win, the Ragin' Cajuns were denied their first road win.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Manley scored a team-leading 21 points, marking a third 20-plus output in the past four games. She finished 9-of-17 from the floor in collecting her 14th double-figure scoring game of the season.

With the nine field goals made, Manley tied her season-high total and posted the second-highest total by a Ragin' Cajun this season.

Daniel registered 10 points in her first appearance on the court since January 15 on the strength of a 6-of-6 showing from the free throw line. She grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

With a pair of assists, Bianca Silva pushed her season total past 60. She's handed out multiple assists in all but two of the 17 games since taking over point guard on November 25.

Daniel collected two steals to lead a group of six Ragin' Cajuns who had at least one steal. Louisiana forced JMU into 15 turnovers.

The Dukes were able to place five scorers into double figures led by Robinson's career-high tying 22 points. JMU enjoyed a 33-10 edge in bench points paced by 14 points from Kylie Marshall.

James Madison knocked down 11 fields and shot 69 percent or higher both quarters in the second half. The Dukes closed 7-of-9 from the floor to finish off a 32-7 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.
