Louisiana eyes a return to the championship game for the 11th consecutive tournament

TROY, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team is set to face Coastal Carolina at 4:00 p.m., on Friday, May 9 in the semifinal round of the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament at the Troy Softball Complex in Troy, Alabama.

No. 3 seed Louisiana (29-24) advanced to Friday's semifinal when Sam Roe's walk-off double on a full count with two outs in the bottom of the seventh clinched a 2-1 win over No. 6 seed App State in the quarterfinals.

No. 7 seed Coastal Carolina (39-17) put up five runs over its first three at bats and SBC Pitcher of the Year Nicolette Picone made it stand in a 5-2 win over No. 2 seed Marshall that secured the semifinals spot.

Live television coverage of Friday's semifinal contest is available on ESPN+ while a radio broadcast is available on The Goat 103.3 FM and 1420 AM in the Acadiana region and worldwide on The Varsity Network.

Tickets can be purchased through TroyTrojans.com/Tickets. For all championship-related information, click to visit Sun Belt Softball Championship Central.

The winner claims a spot in the SBC Championship Tournament's championship game that's set for 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, May 10 on ESPN2.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Chanticleers met in Conway, South Carolina in the regular season over the final weekend in March. Coastal won the series, but UL closed the weekend with five strong innings from Mallory Wheeler in relief, the freshman pitcher allowing only one runner to advance past second base the entire relief stint, and pulled away for a 9-5 victory.

Louisiana and Coastal are meeting in the SBC Championship Tournament for the fourth time, the Cajuns having won the previous three matchups (2019, 2022). The two programs last met in the SBC's postseason event back in 2022 in Mobile.

The 2019 SBC Championship Tournament was the last Cajuns-Chants semifinals matchup. UL claimed a 5-2 win and then defeated Coastal again the next day, 1-0, in the championship game.

On Saturday, the Ragin' Cajuns look to secure the program's 11th consecutive appearance since 2014 and the 23rd appearance overall in 25 attempts in the championship game of the SBC Championship Tournament.
