Louisiana Outlasted by South Alabama in Back-and-Forth Battle

LAFAYETTE – It took nearly three hours of singles play for the dust to settle on Saturday between the Louisiana men's tennis team and South Alabama, but the visitors came away with a 4-1 win. Only singles were played, with an if necessary doubles, due to the potential weather forecast later in the day in Lafayette.

Louisiana took the day's first point behind Mason Landreth's 6-1, 6-2 win on court five. The Jags bounced back to win matches on four, three, and two, in that order, to lead 3-1.

The Cajuns wouldn't quit. Oriol Fillat Gimenez and Leonard Tramolay went to a third set looking to force a sudden-death doubles. South Alabama clinched the match on court six, holding off Tramolay, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, to clinch the match. Fillat Gimenez's match went unfinished at 7-6, 2-6, 5-4, while on match point.

Louisiana is home for the final time this season tomorrow against Troy, with first serve slated for 2 p.m. from Cajun Courts. Prior to the match, the team will honor its seniors as part of Senior Day.
