Louisiana Potgieter Selected To NCAA Men's Golf Regionals

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana's Malan Potgieter was one of seven Sun Belt Conference individuals selected on Wednesday to play in the NCAA Men's Golf Championships after he was named the top individual in the NCAA Tallahassee Regional.

Potgieter, who will make his second appearance in the NCAA postseason, will compete in the Tallahassee Regional on May 12-14 at Seminole Legacy Golf Club. The junior was seeded as the top individual among the five players selected, which included South Alabama's Hugo Thyr and Niilo Maki-Petaja of Louisiana Tech.

Named a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference performer on Tuesday, Potgieter posted a team-low scoring average of 70.76 in 33 rounds of play during the 2024-25 campaign. Potgieter appeared in all 11 events for Louisiana with six top-5 finishes, seven top-10's and 10 top-20 performances

Ranked No. 62 in the latest Scoreboard.Clippd.com rankings, Potgieter recorded scores in 23 of his 33 rounds at par or below, with eight rounds in the 60's. He recorded top-3 finishes in his last four events of the season, beginning with medalist honors at the 40th annual Louisiana Classics (71-65-71-207) and becoming the first Ragin' Cajuns golfer in the history of the tournament to claim top honors

His 7-under-65 in the second round of the Louisiana Classics tied for the fifth-lowest in tournament history. Potgieter finished in a tie for third at both the Old Corkscrew Intercollegiate (71-73-70-214) and the Sun Belt Conference Championships (70-71-70-211).

Potgieter was second overall at the Aggie Invitational (73-72-70-215) and led Louisiana to the team title at the Border Olympics (69-72-70-211).

The top five teams from six regional sites and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, scheduled for May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
