Lead Slips from Cajuns’ Grasp as Tigers Rally in Midweek Contest

Louisiana was in control through three complete before No. 3 LSU battled back
Tyra Clary (3.2 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 3 K) grooved through the first three innings of her start, tossing a no-hitter at the third-ranked Tigers.
Her offense came through in the bottom of the third when Emily Smith (1-for-4, double, 3 RBI) cleared the bases with a three-run double and Sam Roe (1-for-3, RBI) followed with a single to right field to put Louisiana (16-15) up 4-0.
However, the Tigers (30-2) had a quick counter attack immediately after the run support showed up for Clary.
The first four to the plate in the top of the fourth reached base and quickly three runs were put up by LSU. Two batters later Avery Hodge sent a line drive home run over the right field wall to claim a 5-4 lead for the Tigers.
Maci Bergeron's RBI single capped off the six-run response before Clary was lifted for Mallory Wheeler (0.2 IP, 1 H, 5 R, 3 BB), then the Tigers tacked on five more runs in the fifth inning to end the game with 11 unanswered runs following the Cajuns' opening strike in the third.
Bethaney Noble (2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 K) settled down LSU's lineup over the final two innings as she retired six of the seven batters faced over the sixth and seventh innings. LSU reliever Jayden Heavener was equally as effective, holding the Cajuns scoreless for the final 4-1/3 innings.
Smith's double extended her season-best hitting streak to five games, marked her team-leading 11th extra base hit (four doubles, seven home runs) and pushed her season RBI total into the 20s (now at 21 RBI). The freshman first baseman is now batting .583 (7-of-12) with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI over four games since returning from injury.
Roe stretched her season-high reached base streak to eight games and she generated an RBI for the fifth time in the past eight games. Since the SBC opening series at Marshall, Roe is batting .435 and has posted 11 RBI.
Dayzja Williams delivered a solid performance in the two-hole in place of injured Kayla Falterman as she finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Her two-out single in the third set in motion the Cajuns loading the bases for Smith's big strike.
LSU completed the sweep of the midweek home-and-home series between the two programs. The Ragin' Cajuns dropped a second straight home game and remained winless in midweek games this season.
