Morgan Selected As Sun Belt Preseason Pitcher of the Year

LAFAYETTE – Coming off a Freshman All-American season, Louisiana's Chase Morgan was selected as the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Pitcher of the Year as the league's preseason poll and All-Conference team were announced on Wednesday.

Morgan, the SBC Freshman of the Year in 2024, was chosen in a vote by the league's 14 head coaches. Lee Amedee, who was selected at third base, joined the southpaw on the preseason team.

In the preseason poll, Louisiana was picked to finish third in a tightly predicted race with 174 points and three first-place votes. Southern Miss (179 points) was picked to finish first in the preseason poll, with Troy one point behind in second.

Morgan, named last month to the 2025 Perfect Game Preseason All-America team, earned Freshman All-America honors and was a first-team All-SBC selection. He posted a 5-3 record in 20 appearances on the mound and second among all Division I freshmen with a 3.18 earned run average.

His 1.07 WHIP led all Division I freshmen and he was named Freshman All-America by D1Baseball (first team), Perfect Game (first team) and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (second team).

Morgan concluded the regular season as the SBC leader in ERA (2.76) and ranked second among SBC pitchers in opposing batting average (.202), runs allowed (25) and earned runs allowed (20) during the regular season.

Amedee played primarily at third base during the 2024 season posting a .278 batting average with four home runs and 33 RBI. The junior earned starts at third base (38), designated hitter (6), and first base (4) in helping Louisiana to the 2024 SBC regular-season title and recorded five three-hit games on the season.

The Gonzales, La., native posted 15 multi-hit games and ranked third on the team with 10 multi-RBI games. Amedee drove in three runs in games against Arkansas State and Troy and was 3-for-5 with a triple and walk-off RBI double against Tulane

Amedee was named to the NCAA College Station Regional All-Tournament team, hitting a solo homer in the regional opener against Texas before going 2-for-5 with an RBI in an elimination victory over the Longhorns.

Louisiana will officially open its 2025 season on Friday, February 14 when it plays host to San Jose State in a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
