The Cajuns look to get off to a fast start under first-year head coach Thomas Sevel
ORLANDO, FL. – The Louisiana men's tennis team opens the Thomas Sevel era with a doubleheader at UCF on Saturday. First serve of the day begins at 11 a.m. CT with the second match scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Last season the Cajuns went 12-11 and reached the Sun Belt Conference quarterfinals for the first time since 2015. Louisiana had a difficult schedule, facing six schools that would go on to the NCAA Tournament.
The Cajuns return a strong singles core from last year. Vasil Dimitrov won 11 matches while Oriol Fillat Gimenez is back after going 7-6 in singles in his return from injury. Samuel Kyjaci won six matches, playing on all six courts, while William Ribero and Leonard Tramolay each earned four wins.
Central Florida is coming off a terrific 2024 season. They finished the season with 19 wins, earning them a No. 28 ranking in the final ITA rankings of the season. They earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament where they beat Florida in the first round before losing to Florida State in the second round.
