Native of France served as Ragin’ Cajuns interim coach since July

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Bryan Maggard announced on Thursday the official hiring of Thomas Sevel as the Ragin' Cajuns 11th head men's tennis coach in program history.

Sevel, who joined the program as an assistant coach in 2022, has served as the Ragin' Cajuns interim head coach since July after the departure of former head coach Luc Godin to the University of Washington.

"We are very excited to announce Thomas Sevel as our head men's tennis coach," Maggard said. "Thomas has established himself very well since his arrival on campus. He is highly regarded by our current student-athletes, has tremendous tennis experience and acumen, and is an excellent recruiter."

A native of Saint-Raphael, France, Sevel joined the Ragin' Cajuns program with a wealth of coaching experience both internationally and collegiately. He served as a coach at both the Paris West Tennis Academy and Odyssey Tennis Academy in France, as well as a stint at the Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Before his arrival at Louisiana, Sevel spent two years (2019-21) at his alma mater, Temple University, working as a graduate assistant for the men's and women's tennis programs. During the 2021-22 season, he was on staff as a volunteer assistant with Harvard's women's tennis program.

"I am really excited to take over the team that I helped build alongside Coach Luc and see how far we can take it," Sevel said. "We've got a great group of guys, and I believe we have the talent and drive to do something special. It's going to be all about hard work, passion, and having fun as we push for success together."

Prior to arriving in the United States in 2014, Sevel competed on the junior tennis circuit throughout Europe. He began playing collegiately at Augusta University (Ga.), then after finishing undefeated in his second season he transferred to Temple where he played No. 1 singles and doubles for two additional years, reaching a UTR-high of 13.2.

Sevel received his bachelor's degree in business management from Temple in 2019 and earned his master's degree in sport business with a concentration in marketing and promotions in 2021.
