DeBarge named first-team shortstop; Langevin named third-team relief pitcher
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball tandem of Kyle DeBarge and LP Langevin continued to add to their postseason accolades on Friday as Baseball America released its College All-American teams for the 2024 season.
Â
DeBarge earned first-team All-America notice at shortstop by the publication – the first by a Ragin' Cajun and the first, first-team pick since Wyatt Marks in 2017 – with Langevin earning third-team honors.
Â
DeBarge, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, was named to his fourth All-American squad after earning first-team honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), second-team honors by Perfect Game and third-team honors by American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
Â
The junior hit .355 on the season while setting school-records in both home runs (21) and total bases (179). The junior shortstop drove in 72 runs – the most by a Ragin' Cajun since Greg Blevins (75) in 1990 – while starting in all 62 games for Louisiana.
Â
Rated as the No. 1 shortstop nationally by D1Baseball, DeBarge finished second in the Sun Belt Conference in slugging percentage (.699), OPS (1.117), home runs (21), hits (91) and at-bats (256).
Â
DeBarge, who joined Jace Conrad (2014) and Blake Trahan (2015) in earning SBC Player of the Year honors, belted 13 homers and drove in 45 RBI in SBC games while becoming the first player in school history to break the 20-home run mark.
Â
Langevin, a third-team All-American by the NCBWA and ABCA, posted a 6-1 record on the mound in his first season in a Louisiana uniform while leading the team with seven saves. The right-hander posted a 3.73 ERA in 23 appearances on the mound and struck out 106 batters in 62.2 innings of work.
Â
The Quebec City, Quebec native became the school's sixth player to earn SBC Pitcher of the Year honors joining Scott Dohmann (2000), Austin Faught (2005), Hunter Moody (2006), Carson Baranik (2014), Gunner Leger (2017) and Colten Schmidt (2018).
Â
The No. 5 overall relief pitcher by D1Baseball. Langevin finished as the SBC leader in strikeouts, fewest hits allowed (40) and fewest runs allowed (27). Langevin was tied for third in saves among SBC pitchers, seventh in ERA and tied for ninth in wins.
