No. 14 Cajuns, No. 19 Chanticleers Earn Split In Series Finale

Louisiana opens four-game homestand beginning Wednesday vs. HCU
In the nightcap, the Ragin' Cajuns belted a season-high home runs, but walked nine batters as Coastal rallied from a 10-6 deficit and earned a split with a 12-10 victory in the final game of the three-game Sun Belt Conference series.
Louisiana (31-11, 15-3 SBC) will return to action on Wednesday at 6 p.m. when it hosts Houston Christian in a midweek contest at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park. The game against HCU marks the beginning of four-game homestand which will conclude with Louisiana hosting Southern Miss in a three-game SBC series beginning on Friday.
GAME 1 – No. 14 Louisiana 8, No. 19 Coastal Carolina 6
Louisiana fell behind 6-3 after three innings as the Chanticleers scored three runs in the first, two in the second and one in third off starter Chase Morgan. Blake Barthol drove in four runs for CCU as he laced a two-run double down the right-field line in the first before a two-run single in the second.
Louisiana took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Duncan Pastore's RBI single and cut the lead to 3-2 in the second when Jackson Halter and Connor Cuff hit back-to-back doubles.
The Ragin' Cajuns chipped away at the lead when Pastore drove in Luke Yuhasz and Kyle DeBarge with an RBI single, cutting the deficit to 6-5.
LP Langevin (4-0) relieved Morgan after a leadoff single to Barthol in the fifth and shut down the Chanticleers the rest of the way retiring all 15 batters he faced with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
Louisiana loaded the bases in the eighth inning as Cuff led off with a single to left before John Taylor drew a walk. Yuhasz loaded the bases when he was hit by a pitch from Chanticleer reliever Hayden Johnson (1-1) before Cuff would tie the game at 6-6 when he scored on a passed ball.
Caleb Stelly and Pastore would each follow with sacrifice flies to give Louisiana the lead before Langevin picked up three strikeouts down the stretch and preserve the lead.
Pastore went 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead Louisiana at the plate with Yuhasz, DeBarge and Cuff collecting two hits each.
GAME 2 – No. 19 Coastal Carolina 12, No. 14 Louisiana 10
Both teams combined for eight home runs in the series finale with the Chanticleers keeping Louisiana off the board over the final 4.0 innings.
Louisiana led 1-0 after Pastore's RBI single to drive in Yuhasz before CCU scored three times in the second for a 3-1 lead. Graham Brown tied the game with a solo home run off Louisiana starter Carson Fluno before Ty Dooley doubled and Jake Books singled to each drive in a run.
DeBarge belted his 13th home run of the season with a three-run blast to left-center to plate Trey LaFleur and Taylor for a 4-3 lead. Louisiana scored twice in the fourth to break a 4-4 tie behind homers from Higgs and LaFleur before Coastal added two runs when Brown doubled to center to forge a 6-6 tie.
Yuhasz would break the tie in the top of the fifth with a leadoff homer off Dominick Carbone before Higgs would eventually give Louisiana a 10-6 lead with a towering three-run blast to right.
The Chanticleers would score twice in the fifth on Caden Bodine's two-out, two-run double to left before scoring three times in the sixth to take an 11-10 lead. Sam Antonacci delivered an RBI single to score Sebastian Alexander before Barthol hit a two-out, two-run double to give CCU the lead for good.
Antonacci added an insurance run in the eighth when he hit a solo homer to left-center.
Andrew Bowers (1-0), the fifth of eight pitchers used by Coastal Carolina, earned the win with a hitless inning of relief. Bowers and three relievers combined to hold Louisiana to two hits over the final 4.0 innings with Alexander Meckley getting a pair of strikeouts in the ninth after the Ragin' Cajuns had the tying runs in scoring position with one out.
Blake Marshall (0-1) took the loss for Louisiana after scattering four hits and allowing five runs in 1.2 innings. Louisiana issued nine walks in the contest while Coastal recorded 17 hits – the most allowed by the Ragin' Cajuns this season.
DeBarge went 4-for-5 with three RBI to lead Louisiana with Higgs finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of homers and four RBI. Yuhasz and Pastore had two hits each for the Ragin' Cajuns.
