Two-Out Fury Sparks Cajuns in Dominant Opening Win

No. 21 Louisiana puts away Chattanooga scoring 17 of 21 runs with two outs

Louisiana (1-0) produced multiple runs in all four at bats – scoring at least five runs three times – and fired off 17 runs in two-out situations. The Ragin' Cajuns hit a crisp 11-of-16 (.688) with two outs.

Patience was the other key for UL, drawing 10 walks off of Chattanooga pitching led by three from Laney Credeur.

All five Cajuns pitchers saw time and combined to limit the Mocs (0-1) to four hits over five innings. Sam Landry opened with two scoreless frames and three strikeouts while Lexie Delbrey proved to be the most effective afterwards facing only one over the minimum over 1-1/3 innings of scoreless softball.

Piskos and Valdez each delivered three-hit performances, both finishing 3-for-4, to pace the Cajuns' 13-hit effort.

Sam Roe launched the first home run of the season, a three-run line drive shot that highlighted an eight-run first inning for UL. The second home run was courtesy of Piskos' bat and the two-run towering lift to straightaway center in the fourth inning capped off the scoring.

Louisiana moved to 10-0 on Opening Day in the Gerry Glasco era and scored 20-plus in a season-opening game for the first time since 2016 (opened with 22-4 win over Ball State).

The Cajuns and Mocs met for the first time since March 2014. They'll face off again on Friday, February 9 in the final game of the day at 4:00 p.m.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
Opening Weekend continues on Friday, February 9 as Louisiana takes in a pair of games in the 38th Annual Louisiana Classics at Lamson Park, starting with a 1:30 p.m. matchup against Pac-12 member California.

The Cal contest will be followed by the second meeting of the weekend with Chattanooga, scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.

Fans are reminded that Mardi Gras-related parking changes take effect on Friday, with general admission parking moving to park and walk from 500 Coliseum Road (Print Shop/Intramural Fields) or park and shuttle from 611 St. Landry Street (Health Sciences Campus).
