Louisiana moves to 3-0 on Opening Weekend with wins over Cal and Chattanooga
LAFAYETTE – A no-hitter from Sam Landry and two clutch swings from Jourdyn Campbell highlighted a Friday sweep for No. 21-ranked Louisiana Softball in the 38th Annual Louisiana Classics at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park.
Landry (6.0 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 5K) retired the first 13 batters she faced and was a hit batter and one miscue away from a perfect game in the Cajuns' 8-0 (6 inn.) run-rule win over Pac-12 member California to start the day.
Campbell's first impact swing came in the sixth inning, a pinch hit grand slam that allowed Louisiana to walk-off the visiting Bears (2-1).
Then in her first plate appearance of the nightcap against Chattanooga, Campbell drove a two-run single up the middle advancing the early lead for Louisiana in the first inning to 3-0.
Lexie Delbrey (4.0 IP, 1 R, 6 H, 2 K) and Denali Loecker (3.0 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 5 K) combined to strand 11 Mocs baserunners in the contest to preserve the 5-2 win for Louisiana (3-0).
Delbrey caught pinch hitter Alyssa Orlando looking at strike three with the bases loaded in the fourth inning of a 3-1 game and Loecker struck out five during her three innings of relief.
Landry stretched her season-opening stretch of scoreless softball pitched to eight innings. Campbell totaled six RBI on the day, responsible for nearly half of the 13 RBI the Cajuns registered.
Louisiana remained undefeated all-time at Lamson Park vs. California, moving to 3-0. The Cajuns completed a tournament sweep of Chattanooga and improved to 6-1 all-time against the Mocs.
