Ragin’ Cajuns Fall to South Alabama

Louisiana saw its five-game win streak come to an end Tuesday
LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana women's basketball saw its five-game win streak come to end Tuesday and it fell to South Alabama, 46-43.
The loss was the first for the Cajuns in 20 days as Louisiana sits at 9-8 in conference play and in a tie for seventh with one game left to play before the Sun Belt Tournament.
After trailing 23-17 at the half, the Jaguars extended their lead to 13 before the Ragin' Cajuns clamped down and made a comeback, holding South Alabama scoreless for the final 7:18 and closing out the quarter on a 16-0 run.
Jaylyn James provided the offensive spark, scoring seven of the team's next nine points as Nubia Benedith connected on a pair of layups before Brandi Williams buried a 3-pointer to give the Cajuns the lead, 33-32. Uniyah Franklin made two free throws to give Louisiana a 35-32 lead heading to the fourth.
The Ragin' Cajuns led by as many as six in the final frame, but the Jaguars tied the game at 43-43 before taking the lead with 1:48 to go. Louisiana had a chance to tie the game as James' 3-pointer fell short as time expired.
James led Louisiana offensively with 13 points while also recording a career-high five steals. Williams added 10 points as Franklin cleaned up the glass with a season-high nine rebounds.
The Ragin' Cajuns close out the regular against Southern Miss on Friday at 5 p.m.
