Alford's Low Round Leads Louisiana at Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate

Cajuns tied for 14th in 22-team field; will tee off at 11:50 a.m. CST
HENDERSON, Nevada – Burke Alford recorded his third round in the 60's during the 2023-24 season with a 5-under-par 67 and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team concluded the opening day of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate on Monday at Reflection Bay Golf Club.

Louisiana, co-hosting the 22-team field with Arkansas State, posted a team score of 3-over-par 291 to finish in a tie with UNC Wilmington for 14th place.

The second round of the three-day, 54-hole event will begin on Tuesday at 10 a.m. CST with live results available at GolfStat.com. Louisiana, which will tee off beginning at 11:50 a.m. CST, will be paired with Central Arkansas, UNCW and Kansas City in the second round.

Alford posted his second-lowest round of the season and finished the opening 18 holes one stroke behind co-leaders Archie Smith of Little Rock and Steen Zeman of Long Beach State.

The junior recorded three birdies on the front nine, including consecutive birdies at No. 6 and 7 before posting three more birdies on the back. Alford birdied at No. 11, 12 and 14 to move to 6-under for the round before his only blemish with a bogey on the par-3, No. 17.

Malan Potgieter recorded a 2-over-par 74 for Louisiana with Eli Ortego and Jake Marler each firing rounds of 3-over 75. Freshman Dillon Barnard added a 6-over-par 78 for the Ragin' Cajuns with Maximilian Feistmantl, competing individually, posting a 79.

Little Rock claimed the first round lead with a team score of 277. Santa Clara (278), South Florida (280) and Stetson (281) followed with Long Beach State and Middle Tennessee (285) tied for fifth.
