Fourth Quarter Comeback Fuels Louisiana Past Texas State, 55-50

Tamera Johnson posted a game-high 15 points, her fourth-straight game in double figures
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Trailing by two with 5:14 left in the game, the Louisiana women's basketball team closed the game on an 18-11 run for its fifth-straight victory as it defeated Texas State, 55-50, Saturday at Strahan Arena.
The Ragin' Cajuns (14-12, 9-7 SBC) began their comeback as Tamera Johnson gave the Cajuns the lead with 3:46 remaining with back-to-back jumpers before Jaylyn James got a steal that led to a layup.
Johnson connected on a pair of free throws to give Louisiana a 45-39 advantage before Texas State cut the lead to two. The Ragin' Cajuns were clutch at the free-throw line as they made 10 of their last 11 attempts from the charity stripe to secure the victory.
In the first quarter, Texas State (13-16, 3-13 SBC) got out to an early 6-0 lead in the first before the Ragin' Cajuns went on a 7-0 run to take a 7-6 advantage with six and half minutes remaining. Brandi Williams capped off the first quarter with a 3-pointer with 46 seconds left to give Louisiana a 16-12 lead after the first 10 minutes.
The Bobcats opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 20-16 lead but were held scoreless in the final 6:58.
The Cajuns mustered a 7-0 run of their own to close out the half as Uniyah Franklin and Johnson made a pair of layups before Nubia Benedith hit a 3-pointer, giving Louisiana a 23-20 advantage at the break.
Louisiana's defense was stout in the second quarter as it limited the Bobcats to 3-of-12 shooting from the floor as the Bobcats missed their final nine field goal attempts and turned the ball over seven times.
The Cajuns never trailed throughout the third quarter and outscored the Bobcats, 12-11, while holding them to 3-of-9 shooting.
Johnson led all scorers with 15, marking her fourth-consecutive games in double figures as Robinson hauled in a team-high seven rebounds and added seven points. Brandi Williams added 10 points, her 12th game with 10-or-more points this season.
The Ragin' Cajuns home for its final two games of the regular season. Louisiana hosts South Alabama on Tuesday before squaring off against Southern Miss in the regular season finale on Friday.
