Ragin’ Cajuns Complete Comeback in Thrilling 62-57 Victory over Georgia Southern

Tamiah Robinson notched a season-high 18 points

LAFAYETTE, La. – Trailing by seven heading into the fourth quarter, the Louisiana women's basketball team mounted a rally in the final 10 minutes to defeat Georgia Southern, 62-57, Thursday night at the Cajundome.
 
Georgia Southern (13-13, 3-10 SBC) led 47-40 entering the fourth quarter, but the Ragin' Cajuns (11-12, 6-7 SBC) quickly erased the lead, opening the quarter on a 9-2 run sparked with 3-pointers by Brandi Williams and Jaylyn James before Tamera Johnson converted an and-1 opportunity with 6:31 remaining.
 
The Eagles regained the lead, 54-51, with 5:08 left before James buried another 3-pointer to even the game. Following a pair of free throws by Johnson, Georgia Southerns's Terren Ward hit a 3-pointer to give the Eagles a 57-56 advantage before Louisiana scored the final six points of the game.
 
Tamiah Robinson collected her seventh rebound of the game with 2:05 remaining and connected on a pullup jumper prior Uniyah Franklin registering a steal that led to a Robinson layup to give the Cajuns a 3-point lead. Brandi Williams put the nail in the coffin with a pair of free throws with nine seconds left.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns opened the game on a 9-2 run capped off by a Destiny Rice 3-pointer. After leading 13-6 at the end of the first quarter, Georgia Southern took its first lead of the game after beginning the second quarter on a 10-0 run.
 
Louisiana was able to regain the lead with 25 seconds remaining in the half as Robinson recorded a steal and Johnson was able to capitalize with a layup to give the Cajuns a 25-24 advantage.
 
Robinson finished the game with a game-high 18 points, marking a new season high for the junior. Johnson was a rebound shy of a double-double as the Lafayette, Louisiana, native tallied 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
 
Louisiana returns to action Saturday as it hosts Arkansas State at 2 p.m. at the Cajundome.
