UL and Rice Women Meet at Cajundome in Saturday Basketball Matinee

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team returns to play and to the Cajundome on Saturday, December 7 facing Rice in a 12:00 p.m. contest.

Saturday's game is the first of three remaining non-conference games for Louisiana (3-3) prior to the start of conference play. Rice (6-3) makes its first appearance at the Cajundome and first trip to Lafayette since December 1997.

The Ragin' Cajuns put their undefeated home record on the line and seek to return to the win column after falling in both contests at the Big Easy Classic in the Alario Center last weekend.

Admission to Saturday's game – and all UL Women's Basketball games throughout the season – is free and open to the public. Free parking for Saturday's game is at the Cajundome only.

The Ragin' Cajuns will be celebrating Holiday Hoops with a Toys for Tots Drive, Ugly Christmas Sweater Competition, Christmas themed games and music. Fans also have an opportunity to register to win a Ragin' Cajuns Christmas ornament.

BOUNCE PASSES

Louisiana opens the stretch run of non-conference play, with only three games remaining until conference play.
The Cajuns return to the Cajundome where they recently went 3-0 on a November homestand.
UL aims to break a two-game losing streak that was incurred by shooting a combined 27 percent in losses to Cleveland State and Minnesota at the Big Easy Classic in the Alario Center.
UL hosts Rice at the Cajundome for the first time. It's the first time the two programs match up in the city of Lafayette since December 1997.
The Cajuns and Owls last met in November 2021 in Houston, a 73-69 win for Louisiana.
Both Tamiah Robinson (22pts vs. UNO) and Erica Lafayette (24pts vs. Loyola) have set career-high scoring totals at the Cajundome this season.
Led by Jaylyn James' 11.3 ppg, UL has several scoring options with five players averaging at least 7.0 ppg.
Six games in, the Cajuns are averaging 13.0 offensive rebounds while yielding only eight per game.
UL held its first five foes to 60 points or less, has yet to surrender 70 and has held foes to 56.0 ppg so far.
The Cajuns converted 47 percent of their first 53 attempts from three-point range, which ranked No. 1 nationally.
The season opener at Northern Illinois was the only game outside the state of Louisiana until the Dec. 29 SBC opener at Georgia Southern. UL is currently in a stretch where eight straight games (five at home) are in the state.
Louisiana has experience on its side with a combined nine players who are either a graduate or senior.
UL led the SBC in scoring defense – and ranked Top 60 nationally – holding foes below 60ppg the last two seasons.
SBC Championship all-tournament selection Tamiah Robinson, the team leader in assists (69) last season, now takes full control of the point guard position.
Erica Lafayette (Rutgers) and Kamryn Jones (Houston) are a pair of P5 transfers expected to have a significant impact. The duo turned in 20-point double-doubles in the exhibition contest.
Louisiana was picked 5th in the SBC preseason poll and Jaylyn James was a preseason all-conference selection.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
After time off for fall semester final exams, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team returns to the court on Sunday, December 15 in Baton Rouge for a 2:00 p.m. contest against LSU at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

It's the second straight December that the Ragin' Cajuns and Tigers are meeting on a Sunday afternoon at the PMAC. Last year, UL battled LSU to a 28-all tie at halftime before the Tigers pulled away in the second half.

The matchup with LSU is the first of back-to-back SEC outings before the Christmas break and start of SBC play. Louisiana returns to the Cajundome on Wednesday, December 18 to host Auburn in the annual Education Game.
