Upwards to 6,000 Acadiana-area students attending Wednesday’s 11:00 a.m. event

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team hosts Auburn on Wednesday, December 18 in the annual Education Game at the Cajundome, scheduled for an 11:00 a.m. tip-off. Nearly 6,000 Acadiana-area students are expected to be in attendance for the field trip outing.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns are welcoming students from local elementary, middle school, and high school classes for the once-a-season field trip event. Admission is free and the contest is also open to the general public.
 
Wednesday morning's outing marks the 11th edition of the Education Game, a tradition started in December 2014. The Ragin' Cajuns own a 6-4 overall record in the contest, having won the previous four editions.
 
Louisiana (4-4) has been its best in the Cajundome – where the squad is undefeated this season – shooting 42 percent overall including 48 percent (24-of-50) from three-point range on its home court.
 
Tamiah Robinson (11.0) and Erica Lafayette (10.9) have each scored double figures four times the season's first eight games, the duo leading the way with 15 points and 12 points, respectively, on Sunday at No. 4 LSU.
 
Auburn (7-3) had the last nine days off for final exams following a 69-62 win over UAB on December 8 when the Tigers had just eight players available. Graduate student DeYona Gaston leads the Tigers with 19.9 points and 8.9 rebounds per game.

BOUNCE PASSES
  • Louisiana holds its 11th annual Education Game with an expected record of 6-000 plus students in attendance.
  • The Cajuns own a 6-4 overall mark in the Education Game, having won the previous four editions.
  • Facing Auburn marks the first change in the Education Game opponent since 2020. The previous three seasons the Cajuns had faced LSU Shreveport in the contest.
  • Auburn is the first SEC program to appear in the Education Game since Mississippi State in December 2019.
  • After three straight trips to Auburn since 2018-19, including each of the past two seasons, UL hosts the Tigers at the Cajundome for the first time since December 2017.
  • The Auburn contest is the final non-conference game prior Sun Belt play starting Dec. 29 at Georgia Southern.
  • The last time at the Cajundome (on Dec. 7), Louisiana defeated Rice for its signature win in non-conference play.
  • The Rice win kept the Cajuns unbeaten at home, where the team is shooting 42 percent and yielding only 51 ppg.
  • Erica Lafayette, one of two Cajuns to score 20 this season, hit the mark a second time with 20 points vs. Rice.
  • UL held its first five foes to 60 or below, has yielded 70-plus only once and is holding foes to 59.4 ppg so far.
  • Both Louisiana (22.3) and Auburn (22.4) rank Top 30 nationally in turnovers forced. The Cajuns have turned the opposition over 20-plus time all but once, including forcing No. 4 LSU into its season-high tying 21 turnovers.
  • The Cajuns converted 47 percent of their first 53 attempts from three-point range, which ranked No. 1 nationally.
  • Louisiana has experience on its side with a combined nine players who are either a graduate or senior.
  • UL led the SBC in scoring defense – and ranked Top 60 nationally – holding foes below 60 ppg the last two seasons.
  • SBC Championship all-tournament selection Tamiah Robinson, the team leader in assists (69) last season, now takes full control of the point guard position.
  • Erica Lafayette (Rutgers) and Kamryn Jones (Houston) are a pair of P5 transfers expected to have a significant impact. The duo turned in 20-point double-doubles in the exhibition contest.
  • Louisiana was picked 5th in the SBC preseason poll and Jaylyn James was a preseason all-conference selection.
 
 

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns take an eight-day break from play for the Christmas holiday, then return to the Cajundome on Friday, December 27 for an exhibition contest with Dillard at the Cajundome that tips at 4:00 p.m.
 
The Dillard contest provides UL with an additional opportunity to prepare for the start of Sun Belt Conference play which begins on Sunday, December 29 on the road in Statesboro, Georgia against Georgia Southern.
