The top 10 Cougars pulled away in the second half
HOUSTON, Texas – The Louisiana men's basketball team fell in their first road contest of the season, a 91-45 defeat at the hands of No. 8 Houston on Wednesday in the Fertitta Center.
Christian Wright led the offense with eight points as the Cajuns were kept without a double-digit scorer. Kentrell Garnett, Kyndall Davis, and Chancellor White added seven points each. White tied for the team lead with four rebounds to match Jeremiah Evans.
Louisiana kept the Cougars off balance early as neither side scored until a Houston free throw nearly two minutes into the game. Garnett finally got Louisiana on the board at the 16:33 mark with a three and Davis followed with a basket for the 5-3 lead.
After a Houston three, Davis put the Cajuns back in front with a bucket before White hit a three of his own for the 10-6 Louisiana lead. Houston scored the next 14 points before a deep three from Koron Davis kept the Cajuns within seven at 20-13. It was all Houston from there as they outscored the Cajuns 31-12 the rest of the opening half.
Louisiana's offense struggled in the second half, shooting just 7-of-25 from the field (.280) and 2-of-13 from three (.154). Making his first appearance as a Cajun, Christian Landry scored four points late, knocking down his only three-pointer attempt.
The Cajuns look to bounce back against another opponent from the Space City on Tuesday as they host Rice at 7:30 p.m. in the Cajundome.
