Louisiana Closes Lake Charles Invite with Three Wins

The Ragin’ Cajuns won eight matches over the three-day event
LAKE CHARLES, LA - The Louisiana men's tennis team closed the final day of the Lake Charles Invitational with three more wins over top-shelf competition at the Lake Charles Racquet Club on Sunday, September 24.
For the event, the Cajuns won eight matches overall. They were led by William Ribero with five, all three days of singles and two in doubles. Mason Landreth had a strong showing with a pair of singles wins in his second weekend of collegiate tennis.
The day started with Samuel Kyjaci and Ribero teaming up for a big doubles victory over Magadan and Torres of UTSA, who finished last season as the No. 44 tandem in the country, 6-4.
Ribero followed that win with a victory over Shamirul Shahril of Southern Miss, 6-2, 7-6 (9). Mason Landreth cruised to a win over LSU's Charles Hobbs, 6-2, 6-0. Grant Landreth had a three-set battle with Pawin Jirapoomdaje from Southern Miss, 6-4, 2-6, 10-6. Kyjaci fell to Ben Koch of LSU, 6-3, 7-6 (0) in singles to close out the day.
The Cajuns head to Tulsa, Oklahoma for the ITA Regionals beginning next Saturday, September 30.
DAY TWO
Ribero has been on fire to start the season and earned another win, beating Juan Accossatto of South Alabama, 6-2, 6-0. Mason Landreth earned another win this fall by beating Braden Hannig of South Alabama, 7-5, 6-3. Grant Landreth picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory over LSU freshman Charles Hobbs.
In doubles Ribero and Kyjaci defeated Southern Miss' Dakota Bobo and Shamirul Shahril, 7-5, for the team's lone doubles victory. Mason and Grant Landreth fell in their contest 6-4 to Southern Miss while Kyjaci fell in singles in straight sets to South Alabama.
DAY ONE
Ribero won over UTSA, who finished last season ranked No. 42 in the country, defeating Garrett Skelly, 6-2, 2-6, 10-4. Ribero almost had a doubles win with freshman Samuel Kyjaci against Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama, but came up just short in a 6-4 defeat.
Elsewhere in singles Kyjaci and Mason Landreth competed against the Roadrunners. Kyjaci fell in a tight contest, 7-5, 7-6 (6) while Landreth came up just short in another close match, 7-5, 7-5.
