Ortego's Low Round Leads Louisiana at GMAC Invitational

ONEONTA, Ala. – Eli Ortego fired a 4-under-par 68 to sit two shots of the overall lead at the 2023 Graeme McDowell Invitational on Sunday at Limestone Springs Golf Club.

Louisiana, making its second appearance of the 2023-24 season, fired a team score of 3-over-291 to sit in a seventh-place tie after the first day. The 54-hole tournament resumes on Monday with tee times set for 8:30 a.m.

Ortego posted a bogey-free round for Louisiana and finished the opening day behind UAB's Price Brown (-6), Erik Jansson of Jacksonville State (-5) and UTRGV's Emilio Gil Leyva (-5) for the overall lead after play on the par-72, 6,987-yard course.

Burke Alford and Dylan Keating each recorded rounds of 2-over 74 for Louisiana with Jake Marler posting a 3-over-75. Malan Potgieter posted a score of 6-over-78 on the opening day with freshman Dillon Barnard, competing as an individual, shooting a 2-over-74 in his collegiate debut
