Urchoeguia Advances on Opening Day of Diving Eagle Invite

DENTON, Texas – Playing in singles Flight A of the Diving Eagle Invite, Carla Urchoeguia advanced to the second round of the highly competitive event. The junior will play the quarterfinals tomorrow beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Urchoeguia dispatched Martha Makantasi of Tarleton State in straight sets 6-3,6-1. In the morning she'll take on Ksenia Mamontova of Stephen F. Austin. In doubles Cristine Tchanichev and Karolina Skowronska advanced to the Flight A - West semifinals with an 8-4 victory over Stephen F. Austin.
Elsewhere in singles, Tchanichev fell 6-1,6-3 in Flight A while Jenalila Prulla fell 6-2,6-0 in Flight B, and Skowronska dropped her Flight C match 6-2,6-2. As a doubles tandem, Uchoeguia and Prulla fell 8-4 in the opening round and 8-5 in the consolation bracket.
The team is back in action tomorrow morning with a round of doubles at 8:30 a.m. before two rounds of singles.
