Louisiana finishes 13th; Potgieter one of 10 golfers to post all three rounds below par
NORMAN, Okla. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Golf team placed two players in the top 20 and carded a team score of 1-under-287 to wrap up play on Wednesday at the 2023 NCAA Norman Men's Golf Regional on Monday at Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

Malan Potgieter and Eli Ortego each finished in a tie for 16th place in the field for Louisiana after finishing at 5-under 211 for the 54-hole tournament. Potgieter, who was one of 10 golfers in the field to post all three rounds below par, recorded. 3-under 69 in the final round.

The freshman collected four of his seven birdies in the opening nine holes and made the turn at 3-under-33.

After posting a bogey at No. 12, Ortego gained three strokes over his next two holes with an eagle at No. 13 followed by a birdie at No. 14 to eventually make the turn at 2-under-34. Ortego carded three straight birdies on the second nine, beginning at the par-4, 331-yard No. 3 before birdies at No. 4 and 5 to move to 4-under in the round.

Senior Charlie Flynn recorded a 1-over-par 73 to finish at 225 for Louisiana with Matt Weber shooting a 75 to finish at 229 and Jake Marler a 77 and finishing at 239.

Louisiana's best round of the three-day event earned a 13th place finish at 874 overall.

Alabama (836) claimed the regional title with a three-stroke advantage over host Oklahoma (839). Colorado (841), Texas Tech (842) and Duke (843) finished in the top five to advance to the NCAA Championships.
