Louisiana Opens Play Monday at Sun Belt Conference Championships

MADISON, Miss. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team opens play on Monday when it competes in the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Championships at Annandale Golf Club.
The championship will begin with three rounds of stroke play starting Monday. The teams will tee off from split tees beginning at 8:30 a.m., with six teams teeing off on No. 1 and eight teams teeing off No. 10.
Louisiana, the 10th seed in the 14-team field, will tee off from the No. 10 tee beginning at 9:15 a.m. and will be paired with Georgia State and App State in the opening round.
Freshman Malan Potgieter, who has posted a 72.55 scoring average in his inaugural season with the Ragin' Cajuns, will play in the No. 1 slot for Louisiana. Eli Ortego, the 2022 SBC Freshman of the Year, will follow in the No. 2 spot for the Ragin' Cajuns and has posted a 73.24 scoring average in 33 rounds of play.
Charlie Flynn (74.19), Jake Marler (75.71) and Matt Weber (75.67) will fill out the final three spots in Louisiana's five-man lineup.
The par-72, 7,190-yard course will play host to the Sun Belt Championship for the first time. Opened in 1981, Annandale Golf Club was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It has played host to numerous championship events, including serving as home to the PGA Tour Sanderson Farms Championship from 1994-2013.
The top-four teams from the 54-hole stroke play event will advance to match play on Thursday, April 27. The semifinal matches will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the No. 1 and No. 4 seed on No. 1 and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds on No. 10. The championship match will follow the conclusion of the semifinal matches on Thursday.
All three rounds of stroke play, along with Thursday's semifinal and championship matches, will be broadcast live on ESPN+. Live scoring will be available through Golfstat.
