PEACHTREE CITY, GA - The stage is set for the quarterfinal round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships where the Louisiana men's tennis team will square-off with Georgia State on Thursday, April 20. The Cajuns and the Panther will face each at 9 a.m. in a rematch of last Saturday's match in Atlanta.
The Ragin' Cajuns are led by Karlo Kajin who was just named second team All-SBC in singles as well as first and second team All-SBC in doubles. The senior led the team in wins with 12 in singles and earned another 11 in doubles. William Ribero has been on a tear lately, winning five of his final six matches.
Where the Cajuns have done most of their damage is courts four, five and six where they have won at least .579 of their matches this spring. That combined with a winning percentage of at least .600 on courts one and two in doubles, propelled them to a third-place finish in the SBC regular season.
The Panthers finished sixth in the regular season, going 4-4 in SBC action. Last Saturday they held off the Cajuns 4-3 in Atlanta. They're led by freshman Gabriele Datei, who earned a spot on the All-SBC second team after winning nine matches. Datei and doubles partner Roberts Grinvalds were named to the second team All-SBC, winning five matches on court one.
With a win the Cajuns will advance to face the winner between Old Dominion and James Madison in the semifinals.
