Louisiana took four of the six singles matches for their second Sun Belt Conference win of the season
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana women's tennis team picked up a big 4-3 win on Friday at Cajun Courts over App State. The Ragin' Cajuns won four of the six singles matches to beat the Mountaineers who had come into the week as winners of four of their last five.
The Cajuns started the day with a doubles win on court one. The duo of Carla Urchoeguia and Angelique Berrat earned their sixth win of the year, 6-3, over Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Ellie Murphy. The Mountaineers fought back to take the doubles point forcing the Cajuns to win four singles matches.
On court six Momoko Yoshimura grabbed the Cajuns their first point of the day with a straight-set win, 6-2, 6-1. Right behind her were teammates Angelique Berrat and Cristina Tchanichev with wins, putting the team on the brink of the win. After the Mountaineers took the match on court two, the last two matches went to a decisive third set.
Urchoeguia took the opening set on court one in a tiebreaker before dropping the second. With the match on the line, she took over and was in complete control in the third set, winning 6-2 to clinch the match. Laure-Line Monnoyer, coming off her first career win, battled back from a first set loss to force a third set tiebreaker. Despite closing the gap, the freshman couldn't pull out the victory in the final match of the day.
