The Ragin’ Cajuns earned their first win over South Alabama since 2015
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana men's tennis team extended their winning streak to four and improved to 3-0 in Sun Belt Conference play at the Youngsville Sports Complex on Sunday. The Ragin' Cajuns earned a hard-fought 4-3 win over South Alabama, their first over the Jaguars since 2015.
Looking to get off to a good start, the Cajuns did just that by taking the doubles point. William Ribero and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez earned a 6-4 win on court three while over on court one Vasil Dimitrov and Karlo Kajin also pulled out a 6-4 win to clinch the point.
Things got tighter in singles when the Jaguars took the matches on courts one and three to take the lead. William Ribero righted the ship with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court six to tie things up. Next to him, Calin Postea pulled out a win on court five in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3, to put the Cajuns on the brink of clinching. Going back-and-forth, Dimitrov's match on court four went to a third set while on court two Kajin went to a third set.
Avoiding a repeat of yesterday, where the Cajuns needed to win the final match of the day, Dimitrov pulled it out in the third set to clinch the match.
