Track & Field Opens Outdoor Season at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE – Coming off a second place finish on the men's side and sixth place finish for the women at the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships, the Louisiana track and field team opens their outdoor schedule at home at the Louisiana Classics starting Friday, March 17.
The second-place finish was the highest for the Cajuns in indoors since 2004, scoring 126.5 points, their most since 1996. The Cajuns had 10 men named to the All-Conference team, headlined by Jeremy Nelson on the first team.
The women's team saw three school records fall, including the long jump record which had stood since 1991. Jacqueline Pokuaah broke the record with a jump of 20-feet, 5.75-inches and earned SBC Newcomer of the Year honors. Ta'La Spates had a terrific showing, breaking the school's 200-meter dash record and along with Kayla McCray, Moseisha Bridgen, and Alexandra Johnson broke the program's 4x400 record.
