Potgieter Earns Top-10 Finish at Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE – Freshman Malan Potgieter made the most of his inaugural appearance in the 38th annual Louisiana Classics posting a top-10 finish and helping the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team to a fifth-place finish on Tuesday at Oakbourne Country Club.

Potgieter posted a 2-over-par 73 in the final round to finish at 6-over-219 and tied with Sam Houston's Bret Gray for seventh place in the 84-player field.

Louisiana posted a team score of 301 in the final round to finish in fifth place overall at 894. Defending champion and No. 15-ranked Texas A&M earned its third overall title in the event after posting a team score of 287 and finishing at 866 for the event, 11 shots ahead of No. 32 Little Rock (877). Sam Houston was third in the event at 881 with No. 47 LSU (890) and Louisiana rounding out the top five.

Eli Ortego finished in a tie for 25th place after posting an 82 in the final round and finishing at 225 overall. Jake Marler (228), Matt Weber (230) and Charlie Flynn (232) rounded out Louisiana's lineup.

Little Rock's Anton Albers claimed medalist honors after posting a second consecutive round of 2-under 69 to finish at 212 overall. Drew Doyle of LSU and New Orleans' Kyle Bennett were four strokes back with Texas A&M's Jamie Montojo and Vishnu Sadagopan finishing at 217.

Louisiana will return to action March 20-21 when it travels to compete in The All-American at the Golf Club of Houston. The event is co-hosted by Houston and Rice.
