HUMBLE, Texas – Malan Potgieter recorded an afternoon round score of 1-under-par 71 and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team finished in a 12th-place tie with a pair of Sun Belt Conference schools after the first day of the All American on Monday at the Golf Club of Houston.
Competing in the 21-team field co-hosted by the University of Houston and Rice, Louisiana posted a team score of 592 after 36 holes to finish tied with Texas State and Georgia State. The Ragin' Cajuns, finished the opening day one stroke behind ULM and two strokes ahead of Southern Miss in the field.
Potgieter opened the day with a 2-over-par 74 before posting Louisiana's best score of the day in the second round. The freshman opened the second round with an eagle at the par-5, 560-yard No. 8 before posting birdies on the first three holes on the back nine.
Eli Ortego (74-73-147) and Matt Weber (75-73-148) each recorded a 1-over 73 in the second round for Louisiana to finish in the top-50 in the 108-player field. Charlie Flynn (74-78-152) was tied for 72nd after 36 holes with Jake Marler (84-81-165) following.
Louisiana's Burke Alford and Dylan Keating each competed in the All-American Individual on the GCH Member's Course with Alford finishing tied for 18th after two rounds (78-74-152) with Keating (90-81-171) placing 33rd.
No. 36-ranked Louisville, one of six teams in the GolfStat Top-50 entered in the tournament, finished at 10-under 566 to claim the first-day lead. No. 14-ranked Tennessee, No. 17 Kansas State and No. 29 Ole Miss were eight strokes back at 574 with No. 47 LSU (576) rounding out the top five.
The final round of the 54-hole tournament will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. Louisiana will be paired with Georgia State, Southern Miss and Lamar in the final round. Live results will be available at GolfStat.com and RaginCajuns.com.
