Golf Hosts Talented Field In 38th Annual Louisiana Classics

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns will welcome a talented field, which includes the reigning U.S. Amateur champion and 15 of the nation's top 250 players, when it officially tees off the 38th annual Louisiana Classics on Monday at Oakbourne Country Club.
 
The 54-hole event will begin with a 36-hole shotgun start on Monday at 8 p.m., with the final 18 holes scheduled for a 7:30 a.m. fixed tee start on Tuesday. Admission to the 14-team event is free and open to the public.
 
Tuesday's final round will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live results available at GolfStat.com and RaginCajuns.com. The final round will close out for the leaders at the Par-3, No. 9 hole with bleacher seating available.
 
Louisiana welcomes a field which features three teams ranked in the GolfStat Top 50 and eight in the Top 100. Defending champion and No. 15-ranked Texas A&M, which set the tournament record for lowest 54-hole score (817), heads the field and is joined in the field by No. 32 Little Rock and No. 47 LSU.
 
Also entered in the field includes a pair of team champions – New Orleans (2009) and four-time winner SMU (2002-05). Rounding out the field is Denver, Illinois State, Louisiana Tech, Michigan, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, Texas State and UTSA.
 
Louisiana will be led on the opening day of the event by freshman Malan Potgieter (72.58) with Eli Ortego (73.04) slotted in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Charlie Flynn (73.43), Matt Weber (74.94) and Jake Marler (74.89) will round out the Ragin' Cajuns five-man lineup with Hudson Dubinski, Burke Alford, Dylan Keating and Maximilian Feistmantl playing as individuals.
 
The 84-player field includes defending champion and reigning U.S. Amateur champion Sam Bennett of Texas A&M, currently ranked No. 53 nationally in the GolfStat Top-250. The Aggies have six players entered in the event with No. 166-ranked Phichaksn Maichon competing as an individual.
 
Former Sun Belt Conference member Little Rock, which claimed the league title in its final season in 2022, has three players ranked led by No. 69-ranked Matteo Cristoni. LSU and New Mexico State each have a pair of ranked players competing in the event with Illinois State and Sam Houston each with one.
