Alford posts pair of eagles as Louisiana tied for fifth after 18 holes
HENDERSON, Nevada – Eli Ortego recorded a 2-under-par 70 while freshman Malan Potgieter finished at 1-under-71 to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team during the opening day of the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate on Monday at the Reflection Bay Golf Club.

Louisiana, co-hosting the 54-hole event with Arkansas State, finished the opening round in a fifth-place tie with UAB and Kentucky at 1-under-287. Long Beach State (278), No. 42-ranked Little Rock (279), Michigan (279) and New Mexico State (283) claimed the top four spots after the first 18 holes.

Ortego opened the day with a 2-over-38 on the front nine before making the turn and playing a flawless final nine holes, going 4-under-32 to finish tied for 11th after the first round.

Potgieter posted an even-par score of 36 during the opening nine holes before shooting a 1-under-35, highlighted by an eagle on the par-5, 596-yard No. 12.

Burke Alford, who posted a pair of eagles on the back nine, and Matt Weber each carded rounds of 1-over-73 for Louisiana with Jake Marler recording a 3-over 75. Dylan Keating, competing as an individual, recorded a 6-over 78.

The second round of the three-day event will begin at 9:10 a.m. CT. Louisiana, which will be paired with Kansas City and South Florida, will tee off beginning at 10:50 a.m.
