HOUSTON – Freshman Malan Potgieter posted a 1-under-par 143 through 36 holes to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic on Monday at the Westwood Golf Club.

Louisiana, playing in its second event of the spring, posted a team score of 9-over 297 in the opening round and 5-over 293 in the afternoon to finish 12th after 36 holes at 590 overall.

The final round of the 92-player tournament will start on Tuesday a 7:30 a.m. fixed start from Holes 1 and 10. Louisiana, which will be paired with Southern Miss and Abilene Christian in the final round, will tee off from No. 10 beginning at 9:09 a.m.

Potgieter opened the day with a 1-under-par 71 before finishing at even par in the afternoon to finish in a tie for 20th place in the field. The freshman recorded a pair of birdies on the front nine to finish at 1-under 35.

Eli Ortego opened the day with a 4-over 76 before coming back with a 1-under 71 in the evening to finish tied for 43rd at 3-over 147. Charlie Flynn and Matt Weber recorded identical rounds of 3-over 75 to finish at 6-over-150 in the field with Hudson Dubinski finishing eight strokes back at 158.

Burke Alford, playing as an individual for Louisiana, opened the day with an 83 before posting an even-par 72 in the nightcap to finish at 155.

Sam Houston finished the day as the leader after 36 holes with a team score of 558. Oral Roberts was six strokes back at 564 with Houston (567), Lamar (567) and UT Arlington (568) rounding out the top five.
