The Ragin’ Cajuns advance to the finals against UTSA

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Louisiana men's tennis team is just one win away from taking home the H-E-B Tournament of Champions after a pair of wins on Friday at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.  The Ragin' Cajuns cruised to a win to start the day over New Mexico State, 5-0, before holding off host school Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 4-3, in the semifinals.

The Cajuns took the doubles point quickly over the Aggies.  On court one Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez defeated Jordy Visser and Yehor Opanasenko, 6-1, while William Ribero and Alejo Ferrer Chueca took care of business on court three with a 6-1 win over Patrick Lohmann and Ryan Ford.  On court two Kacper Dworak and Vasil Dimitrov led 5-2 before doubles point was decided and their match declared unfinished.

On court six Calin Postea had little resistance in a 6-0, 6-2 win over Lohmann.  Ferrer Chueca won his match on court two, 6-1, 6-2, to give the Cajuns a 3-0 lead.  Wins on courts four and five by Kajin and Dworak sealed the deal to advance to the semifinals.  Despite their matches going unfinished, Sanchez Gonzalez was up, 6-3, 5-2, on court one and Vasil Dimitrov led on court three, 6-4, 5-4.

Things got interesting against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a rematch from 13 days ago at Cajun Courts.

Dimitrov and Dworak picked up a win on court two in doubles action, 6-3, over Nathan Schwartz and Lucas Schurdevin.  Over on court one, Kajin and Sanchez Gonzalez couldn't seize the doubles point for Louisiana, falling 6-4 to Pascal Lorieul and Avery Zavala.  With the point on the line, court three needed a tiebreaker to settle things.  Despite the best efforts of Ferrer Chueca and Ribero, the home side came out victorious, 7-6 (7-4).

Louisiana needed every point in the singles portion to advance to the finals.  Kajin won his match, 6-4, 6-3, on court four while Postea was victorious on court six, 6-3, 6-1.  After falling on courts two and five, the Cajuns needed the last two matches to go their way.

After falling behind a set on court one, Sanchez Gonzalez stormed back to take his match in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.  Over on court three, Dmitrov also fell behind a set before pulling off a close win in the second.  The sophomore was in control of the third set to secure the match for Louisiana, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
