Ortego Concludes Play at South Beach International Amateur

MIAMI – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golfer Eli Ortego concluded play on Friday at the 2023 South Beach International Amateur at the Miami Beach Golf Club, shooting a 2-over-par 73 and finishing in a tie for 30^th in the 204-player field.

Ortego, who finished the 72-hole event at 1-under-282, was 11 strokes off the lead of Virginia's Benjamin James who claimed the event by two strokes over third-round co-leaders Michael La Sasso and Miles Russell.

Ortego managed one birdie on the front nine at the No. 7 hole before making the turn at 2-over-36. After a double bogey at No. 10, Ortego rallied with birdies at No. 12 and 16 to finish at even-par on the back.

The junior will lead Louisiana, which finished with four top-five finishes in five events during the fall season, into the spring portion of its 2023-24 schedule on Feb. 12-13 when it opens play at the Hal Williams Collegiate in Mobile, Ala.
