Ortego Fires 2-Under 69 In Opening Round on South Beach

Junior part of 204-player international field in 72-hole event

MIAMI – Louisiana Ragin' Cajun golfer Eli Ortego fired a 2-under-par 69 to sit five shots off the lead after the first round of the 2023 South Beach International Amateur on Tuesday at the Miami Beach Golf Club.
 
The 204-player field will play at both Miami Beach Golf Club and Normandy Shores Golf Course for the 72-hole event which concludes on Friday. Ortego, who will tee off the second round on Wednesday at 6:38 a.m. CT, will compete on the par-70, 6,805-yard Normandy Shores Course.
 
Ortego recorded four birdies in the opening round to finish tied for 34th in the field. The junior posted birdies on the front nine at holes No. 2 and 5 before overcoming a double bogey at No. 10 with birdies at 12 and 15.
 
The field will be cut down to 72 players for the final two rounds beginning on Thursday. Official results can be accessed at SouthBeachInternationalAmateur.com.
