Louisiana Posts Top-Five Finish at USF Invitational

Ortego, Potgieter post rounds in the 60's and finish in top 20
BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Eli Ortego and Malan Potgieter each recorded rounds in the 60's and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team moved up three spots to a tie for fourth place during the final day of the USF Invitational at Southern Hills Plantation Club.

Louisiana, which posted its third top-five finish in as many events during the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule, finished the 54-hole event with a team score of 8-under-856. The Ragin' Cajuns, who were tied with Davidson in the 14-team field, finished eight strokes behind host South Florida and Stetson and one shot behind third-place Lamar.

Ortego, who posted a 5-under-par 67 in the final round and was tied for sixth at 6-under-210 (72-71-67) overall, played a bogey-free round on the back nine for Louisiana where he scored birdies at No. 11, 13, 15 and 16.

Potgieter fired a 4-under-68 in the final round for Louisiana and finished in a tie for 14th place overall at 3-under-213 (70-75-68). The sophomore also played a bogey-free round on the back nine for the Ragin' Cajuns with birdies at 11, 14 and 16.

Jake Marler posted a final round score of 1-over-par 73 and wrapped up the event in 23rd place at 1-under-215 (70-72-73). Burke Alford finished at 2-over-218 (71-69-78) for Louisiana with Dylan Keating finishing at 12-over-228 (72-78-78).

Louisiana returns to action beginning on Monday when it travels to Little Rock, Ark., to compete in the Everett Buick GMC Classic at Chenal Country Club.
