Pair of in-state products, Texas prepster sign National Letter of Intent
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf Coach Theo Sliman announced Thursday the addition of three newcomers for the 2023-24 season during the recent National Signing Day.Â
Â
Joining the Ragin' Cajuns are a pair of in-state products – Ross Anderson (Lake Charles, La./St. Charles Catholic) and Adam Trahan (Crowley, La./Episcopal School of Acadiana), along with Texas high school product Dillon Barnard (Montgomery, Texas/Montgomery HS).Â
Â
"We are very excited with the three signees for the Class of 2023," Sliman said. "I have enjoyed getting to know each one throughout the recruiting process. Adam, Ross and Dillon display the characteristics we look for in identifying our team … hard work, an eagerness to learn and a strong competitive drive. Â
Â
"Each addition has a very high ceiling and I look forward to getting each of them on campus in August and working for wins both on and off the course."Â
Â
ROSS ANDERSON – Lake Charles, La. | St. Louis Catholic HSÂ
Anderson, the 2022 Division II state medalist, helped St. Louis Catholic to the state title held May at Lafayette's The Wetlands Golf Course. He helped the Saints rally to the team crown after shooting a 36-hole score of 145 to claim the individual crown by three strokes.Â
Â
He added three top-10 finishes on the junior circuit during the 2022 season highlighted by a third-place finish at the LJGT Tour Championship in October. Anderson, who posted a low-round score of 68 at the AJGA Colorado Springs Junior, opened the 2022 campaign with a seventh-place finish at the NTPGA All-American Tour Tangle Ridge Open before finishing fourth at the STPGA Houston Junior Classic.Â
Â
"Many great golfers from Southwest Louisiana have been part of the Louisiana golf team, and it's an honor to have the opportunity to play for a team with such a legacy under Coach Theo Sliman. I'm very humbled to have the opportunity to play Division I golf at Louisiana; it has been a dream of mine to play college sports since I was very little. To see the hard work coming together is truly a blessing."Â
Â
DILLON BARNARD – Montgomery, Texas | Montgomery HSÂ
Barnard opened the 2022 season with three top-5 finishes, including an AJGA record-breaking 17-under-par performance (67-66-66-199) at the AJGA Junior at Beaver Creek. Barnard, who earned a pair of wins in 2021 on the TJGT tour, posted a fourth-place finish at last year's AJGA Preview at College Station and a third-place performance at the Insperity Invitational/Patrick Reed AJGA Junior Championship.Â
Â
"When I visited Louisiana, I felt a culture that I've never felt before, and at that point I knew I wanted to be a part of the Ragin' Cajuns. My whole life I've always loved to win and keep getting better, and at Louisiana, I know I can do both of those things."Â
Â
ADAM TRAHAN – Episcopal School of Acadiana | Crowley, La.Â
Trahan, the son of former Ragin' Cajuns golfer Robbie Trahan, claimed a fourth-place overall finish (75-79-154) and helped Episcopal School of Acadiana to a fourth-place finish in the Louisiana Division IV State Tournament held in May at Carencro's The Farm d'Allie. Â
Â
He claimed a second-place finish at the LJGT at Squire Creek in July with a 1-under-143 and was fifth at the LJGT at Tamahka Falls (74-72-146). Â
Â
Trahan competed in the 65th Louisiana Boys Junior Amateur in July, finishing 13th overall and capped by a low-round of 68.Â
Â
"The reason I chose the University of Louisiana is because I was very impressed with their top-notch Athletic facilities and their beautiful campus. I'm very excited to work with Coach Theo and the whole Ragin' Cajuns golf team to help me grow as a player and a person. I look forward to giving my best efforts to be a strong member on the team!"Â
