Pair of Singles Titles Highlight Fall Opener for Louisiana Women's Tennis

Ragin' Cajuns had strong presence in the winner's bracket at Northwestern State's event
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis team made its Fall 2022 debut from Friday-Saturday, September 16-17 at the NRMC Lady Demon Collegiate Invitational in Natchitoches, La., and had three players reach the championship match of a singles draw with two capturing a first-place finish.
Junior Momoko Yoshimura and freshmen Laure-Line Monnoyer and Angélique Berrat represented Louisiana in the championship match of a singles draw.
Yoshimura captured convincing wins on Friday to reach the winner's bracket final of the white singles draw, defeating UNO's Laurie Barendse 6-2, 6-1 and SFA's Felicia Black 6-2, 6-2. She knocked off homestanding Thitirat Kanaphuet of Northwestern State 6-4, 6-1 on Saturday to claim the title.
Monnoyer was Louisiana's other first-place finisher, reaching the finals of the grey singles draw with a 6-3, 7-5 win over NSU's Dorota Szczygielska on Friday before besting fellow Sun Belt Conference competitor Maddison Ricardo of Southern Miss 7-6, 7-5 on Saturday.
A runner-up finish in the orange singles draw marked a solid collegiate debut for Berrat who picked up a win (6-3, 6-3) over SBC mate Giovanna Pereira of ULM and challenged Southern Miss' Hannah Chambers in the finals.
Junior Lucie Raquin was the other Ragin' Cajun to advance in the winner's bracket in singles play, concluding her weekend in the third place match of the purple singles draw after opening with a 6-4, 3-1 (ret.) win over USM's Ebru Yazgan.
In doubles play, Louisiana's combo of Yoshimura and Carla Urchoeguia placed third in the winner's bracket of the purple draw by claiming a 6-1 win over USM's Ricardo and Alyssa Richter. In the black doubles draw the duo of Berrat and Raquin captured the consolation bracket title.

We have some room for improvement, but it was a good start for the year."
