Louisiana Opens Play at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

Weber shoots low round for Ragin' Cajuns; second round set for Monday
CHOUDRANT – Matt Weber posted a 2-under-par 70, aided by a solid performance on the front nine, and five of six members of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team posted rounds of par or better during the opening day of the 2022 Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Sunday at Squire Creek Country Club.
Louisiana, playing in its second event of the 2022-23 season, posted a team score of 2-under-286 to finish the first 18 holes tied with Troy for 11th place in the 23-team field.
Weber, who opened the day on the back nine, overcame a slow start before his birdie at No. 18 put him at 1-over-37 at the turn. The Lafayette native then birdied at No. 2 to go even for the day before collecting birdies on three of his final four holes of the day.
Freshman Malan Potgieter, Jake Marler and Eli Ortego each posted round of even-par 72 for Louisiana with Charlie Flynn posting a strong finish with birdies on his final two holes to finish at 2-over-74. Burke Alford, competing as an individual, carded an even-par 72 for the round which was aided by an eagle at the par-4, No. 13 and three birdies on his final seven holes.
ULM claimed the first day lead in the three-day event with a 14-under-274. Houston and host Louisiana Tech were two strokes back at 276 with UTSA (277), Middle Tennessee (278), LSU (278) and Southern Miss (278) following.
LSU's Garrett Barber posted a 7-under-65 to claim the first-day lead with three players one shot back with a 66.
Monday's second round will begin at 7:30 a.m., with the field teeing off from the No. 10 tee. Louisiana, which will be paired with Troy, North Texas and South Alabama, will tee off beginning at 10:10 a.m.
