Ortego's Second Round Leads Louisiana at SBC Championships

Final round of stroke play to be played Tuesday
EL DORADO, Ark. – Freshman Eli Ortego recorded a 1-under-par 71 in the second round and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team finished in a tie for ninth-place after 36 holes of the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championships on Sunday at Mystic Creek Golf Club.
With inclement weather anticipated in the El Dorado, Ark., area on Monday, April 25, the first day of the 54-hole event consisted of 36 holes. The final round of stroke play remains scheduled for Tuesday with the top four teams advancing to match play on Wednesday.
Ortego, making his debut at the SBC Championships, opened the day with a 5-over-par 77 before recording the Ragin' Cajuns lowest individual round of the day in the second round. The freshman finished in a tie for 10th place in the field at 4-over 148.
Peter Hinnant posted rounds of 76 and 75 to finish in 22nd place at 151 with Jake Marler and Jose Dibildox finishing at 156. Charlie Flynn finished at 163.
Little Rock, behind first-day leader Anton Albers, posted rounds of 288 and 294 to finish at 582 overall and two strokes ahead of Georgia Southern (584). UT Arlington (594), Georgia State (600) and ULM (601) rounded out the top five in the 12-team field.
The final round will begin on Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. Louisiana will officially tee off beginning at 8:15 a.m., and will be paired with South Alabama and Coastal Carolina in the final round of stroke play.
