The top four teams from the 54-hole stroke play event will advance to match play on Wednesday

EL DORADO, Ark. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team opens play at the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championships on Sunday when the 12-team event begins at Mystic Creek Golf Club.

The tournament will be the second-straight held on the par-72, 7,293-yard course. The teams will tee off from split tees, beginning at 8:30 a.m., with six teams teeing off on No. 1 and six teams starting at No. 10.

Coverage of the four-day event will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live results available at GolfStat.com.

Louisiana, the No. 6 seed in the field, will be paired with No. 4 seed Arkansas State and fifth-seeded ULM in the opening round and will start from the No. 10 tee beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Ragin' Cajuns enter the 54-hole event with the lowest scoring average (292.16) in school history and 10 rounds of par or better during the season.

Peter Hinnant, the Ragin' Cajuns career leader in eagles (18) and par-5 scoring (4.7188), leads the team with a 72.38 scoring average during the 2021-22 season and will man the No. 1 spot in Louisiana's five-man lineup. The senior enters the tournament with 119 birdies on the season, trailing Philipp Fendt (127) and Richard Ainley (126) for the most in school history.

Junior Charlie Flynn, ranked No. 25 among SBC golfers, will be slotted into the No. 2 spot for Louisiana and is averaging 73.31 per round. Freshman Eli Ortego makes his debut at the SBC Championships after averaging 72.75 during the season – second on the team – while producing 17 rounds of par or better during the season, two shy of the single-season record held by Ainley (2000-01) and Fendt (2009-10).

A pair of Louisiana members – Jake Marler (75.07) and Jose Dibildox (75.15) – will each make their SBC Championship debuts for the Ragin' Cajuns.

The top four teams from the 54-hole stroke play event will advance to match play on Wednesday, April 27. The semifinal matches will tee off beginning at 8:30 a.m. — with the No. 4-seed and the No. 1-seed on No. 1 and the No. 3-seed and the No. 2-seed on No. 10. The championship match will tee off from No. 1 following the conclusion of the semifinal matches.
