Third-straight matchup between in-state foes goes the distance
LAFAYETTE – Tanisha Kashyap tied the match late with a clutch win on Court 2, but Louisiana was unable to claim the decisive point as ULM won Friday afternoon's Sun Belt clash, 4-3.
With the defeat, the Ragin' Cajuns fall to 1-2 on the year when they play in matches that go the distance.
Reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Carla Urchoeguia and her partner Momoko Yoshimura got the match off to a hot start with a resounding 6-0 sweep on Court 1 in doubles play. However, ULM picked up wins on the other courts to take the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
The Warhawks went ahead 2-0 after a win on Court 3, but Yoshimura (6-2, 6-4) and Urchoeguia (6-3, 6-1) secured victories on their respective courts to tie things up.
Down a point late in the match, Kashyap dug deep in the third set and defeated Alessandra Anghel, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, to square things up at 3-3.
The final match went down to the wire, but Angel Santiago was unable to top Jimena Garbino on Court 6 as ULM escaped with the 4-3 win.
Louisiana returns to action on Saturday morning when it hosts Arkansas State. First server from Cajun Courts is set for 10 a.m.
