Carla Urchoeguia Named Sun Belt Women's Tennis Player of the Week

Urchoeguia picks up three big wins during opening weekend of Sun Belt play
LAFAYETTE – Freshman Carla Urchoeguia has been named the Sun Belt Conference's Player of the Week following a stellar opening weekend of league play, it was announced on Wednesday morning.
Urchoeguia is the first Ragin' Cajun to win the weekly award since her teammate Lucie Raquin garnered the recognition on Feb. 19, 2020.
The Saint Jean de Luz, France, native won two matches at No. 3 singles and one match at No. 1 doubles against South Alabama and Troy.
She opened Sun Belt Conference play by winning her singles match (6-4, 6-4) over South Alabama's Luminita Tutunaru on court three to secure Louisiana's lone point of the match.
She followed that performance with an impressive 6-1 win with partner Momoko Yoshimura over Troy's Andrea Wilding and Anastasiia Khokhlova.
Urchoeguia capped off the impressive weekend with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against the Trojans' Michelle Ncube. She moved to 4-0 on the year at No. 3 singles after the weekend.
Louisiana returns to action on Friday, March 18, when the team host in-state foe ULM. First serve at Cajun Courts is set for 2:30 p.m.
