Louisiana Men's Basketball Begins Final Road Stretch Against Georgia Southern

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Basketball will travel to Statesboro, Ga. to begin its final road trip of the season against Georgia Southern 6 p.m. (CT) Thursday at Hanner Fieldhouse. The game will be available to be streamed live on ESPN+.

Louisiana is coming off back-to-back victories over in-state rival ULM on Thursday and Saturday.

Redshirt-freshman Kobe Julien led the Ragin' Cajuns past the Warhawks as he averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the series.

Just five games after recording the first of his career, Julien earned his second-career double-double on Saturday as he totaled 26 points and 10 rebounds. The Baton Rouge, La. native has tallied 15+ points in each of the last five contests.

As a result of his efforts, Julien was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Junior guard Jalen Dalcourt emerged as an additional scoring threat for Louisiana during last week's contests. Dalcourt scored a season-high 16 points on Thursday and followed it up with a new season-best 17 points on Saturday.
Junior forward Theo Akwuba has been a dominant defensive presence around the basket for Louisiana this season. Akwuba needs just five more swatted shots to pass Reginald Poole (169 -1994-99) for third place on Louisiana's career blocks leaderboard. The junior passed Jakeenan Gant (156 - 2017-19) earlier this year.
Led by sophomore Jordan Brown (8.8) and Akwuba (8.2), who rank third and fourth respectively in the Sun Belt in boards per game, the Ragin' Cajuns are second in the conference with 39.1 rebounds as a team.

Georgia Southern enters the contest on a five-game losing streak after dropping two-straight games to Georgia State last week. The Eagles are led by junior forward Andrei Savrasov who is averaging 10.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game this season.

Thursday will mark the 17th meeting between the two programs as Louisiana trails the all-time series 7-9.

Dion Brown lettered for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1980-84 and finished his career as one of the top scorers and rebounders in school history. Brown, a 1984 graduate of UL, earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1982 and was a two-time All-Louisiana selection.
